Timeshares- Part 3 – “Last Call” Deals

Timeshares- Part 3 – “Last Call” Deals

You could travel for 52 months a year and stay in “Gold Crown” resorts, and your total lodging costs would be less than $1000 a month in exchange fees!

I hear the guy in the crowd yelling, “That’s pretty bold talk for a one-eyed fat man!”

Well just like John Wayne “I’ll take that as a challenge”

If you own a timeshare you qualify to join RCI or Interval International which are timeshare consolidators. Both of these consolidators charge a fee to be a member but with membership comes privileges.  One of the major privileges of being a member is being able to use the consolidator’s “Last Call” program.

A “Last Call” program is designed to sell off timeshare inventory and offers timeshares to members at a reduced rate.  Because the consolidator is selling off inventory the “Last Call” deals only reflect two months of inventory. We are drafting this article on February 15, 2018, the “Last Call” inventory available to us will be from February 15, 2017 until April 15, 2018. To the left I have a screen shot of the units that RCI has available for rent. The criteria I used to find these units are:Last Call; Gold Crown Resort; Not all-inclusive. The screen shot shows that on Feb. 15th there were 254 units available just in the USA. Availability for “Last Call” units change every day.

As you can see there are 78 resorts available with 441 units available in 7 regions just for the cost of the exchange fees.

All of the exchange fees will be less than $300 and in many instances RCI will have “Last Call Sales” that offer exchange fees for as little as $199 a week?

So for the cost of your exchange fees you can stay in these units as many times as you want. Like, “the one-eyed fat man”, my talk may be bold but it’s true. Just for fun I am going to set up a 1 month road trip across America where my hypothetical traveler only stays in “Last Call”, “Gold Crown” resorts.

We could start our road trip on February 24th and stay 7 days at the Presidential Villas in Surfside Beach S.C. in a hotel unit for $219 for the week. We could then drive to Duck N.C. on the 3rd of March and stay at the Barrier Island Station Resort for a week in a two bedroom unit for $269. We would then leave the Atlantic coast and drive into the Virginia Mountains and stay at the Woodstone Resort in McGaheysville VA. from the 10th till the 17th of March, where we could get a 1 bedroom unit for $244 for the week. Finally we could drive up to the small ski resort in the Berkshires and stay at the Berkshire Mountain Lodge in another 1 bedroom unit for $244.

During our 28 day trip we would have full kitchens for 21 of the 28 days and when staying in the two bedroom unit at Duck N.C. we could invite friends to join us and have a full second unit for them to stay in.

In conclusion, using none of your timeshare points you could have enjoyed a 28 day road trip up the east coast of the USA and your total lodging costs at 4 Gold Crown Resorts would be $976! Yes, that’s staying in Gold Crown resorts for only about $35 a night. I have to confess, when Charlene and I take road trips like this we augment our costs by staying with friends and when we can score a 2 bedroom unit we also invite friends to join us.

In our article on buying a timeshare we discuss how to minimize the cost of your purchase. If you buy a deeply discounted 1/2 timeshare, where you only pay a maintenance fee every 2 years, as we recommend, you get to enjoy the full benefits of the “Last Call” deals.

This road trip is not a freak set of circumstances. You can find trips like this every day all over the world in a matter of minutes and like I said at the start of this article these sets of “Last Call” deals are available all year long so: You could use this Geezer Tool to travel all year long for as little as $1000 a month.

These “Last Calls” are not just for the timeshare owner but can also be given as gifts. In any given year our kids will stay in “Last Call” resorts like the ones we mentioned above for between $219 and $269 a week plus a “Guest” fee. Charlene and I get about 5 units a year for our family and friends using the “Last Call” deals.

Timeshares can be an amazing Geezer Travel tool but like all tools you have to know how to use the tool or it can hurt you. In order to maximize the timeshare travel tool you have to have a strategy when you buy your timeshare, you have to maximize your points and you have to use and abuse deal like “Last Call” and “Extra Vacations”.
