Travel bloggers tend to focus on fantastic world trips but the reality is most travel plans involve short trips to see friends and family.
As grand parents Charlene and I will make two trips this spring to see kids and grand kids. We travel overseas a lot but a lot of our travel assets are utilized by our family travel. We thought an article on using Geezer travel tools on local travel might be valuable to our readers because in reality, short family trips are the bulk of most peoples travels.
This spring is proving to be a busy travel season for Charlene and I but there won’t be any fantastic world trips. Between mid Mid March and mid April we will be using our travel asset to get: two round trip tickets to Denver; rooms for 10 people in Steam Boat Springs, Colorado for 7 days; two round trip ticket from Florida to New York; UBER rides from La Guardia International air port to down town Manhattan; and a room in Manhattan for two days.
We don’t have to take any of these trips but because of the travel assets, taught in our articles, we will be able to take all of these trips without crushing our budget.
As you might have guessed most of the time during our 20 day trip to visit friends and family in Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota we will be staying with family. The flights will be paid for with air miles and travel credit card reward points. The week of rooms in Steamboat will be paid by our timeshare assets and our rooms in New York will be free because of our hotel credit card assets.
Our round trip tickets to Denver will cost us a total of 12,266 point each or 24,532 Chase points.
Our 3 – 2 bedroom condos in Steamboat will comfortably sleep Charlene and I and 8 or our family for a full week. Our cost for the week of lodging will be about $750 and around 21,000 RCI Points. Without our timeshare asset we would have not been able to afford this part of our trip.
When we UBER in New York City we will pay with our American Express Platinum card which allots us $200 in paid UBER each year.
After our 20 day trip west we will return to Florida for two days and then fly to New York. We’re flying to watch our daughter Sara do a speech at the the Explorers Club in Manhattan. From New York we will fly home to Florida.
In New York City, motel rooms are horribly expensive but we were able to use our Choice Hotel reward points to get rooms.
For 13,399 (20,615 x .65) American Express points each we will be able to fly round trip from West Palm Beach to La Guardia international airport.
All of our flights this spring will cost us around 38,000 travel reward points. All of our lodging for our trips this spring will cost us around $750 plus around 21,000 RCI points and two of our free rooms with Choice Hotels.
Traveling to see family is probably the most common use people will have for their reward travel assets and few things in life are more rewarding then catching up with friends and family.
