Cooking in Paris

As a mature, and responsible adventurer, one of the greatest adventures has to be food and what better place to explore the art of food than Paris. During our aimless Parisian wonder yesterday we found the most amazing cooking store we have ever seen. E.Demillerin is a must see cooking store located at 18 et 20 rue Coquillière about two blocks west of the Les Halles Metro station.

If you have that little cooking device you just can’t find or need a four-foot long kitchen knife, that looks more like a Viking sword than a knife, this is your place to go.

When you walk in, the staff is right inside the door and willing to find you the most common or unique of kitchen tools. These are not your pretty little yellow handled knives they are the real deal wood handles and top of the line steel.

So you want a 10′  wire whisk, that you may look for a week in the States to find?

These folks have 10 wooden bins full of wire whisks. They store their wire whisks by the dozens in wooden bins. E.Demillerin’s stock of wire whisks resembles most good lumber stores inventory of  bulk ten penny nails. They have bins of wooden spoons. They have bins of paring knives. Hey, these guys have wooden bins filled with cheese graders!

Ok, I admit I went outside to the local cafe and had a coffee while the ladies shopped but in reality there were things in E.Demillerin I thought were cool, I just didn’t have the passion the ladies were showing.

Want an electric hand masher to whip up commercial amounts of garlic and truffle mashed potatoes? These guys have hand blenders that look like electric chain saws. Want commercial grade electric juicers, toasters, slicers, or any other kitchen tool that you can imagine E.Demillerin will have them in their store by the dozens.

Charlene is a big fan of cook ware, you know pots and pans. I like pots and pans, I like to watch her cook, with pots and pans. Well, Geezer’s these guys have copper pans, kettles and skillets of every size and  configuration you can imagine. you want a square copper skillet or a stainless steel oval skillet? They got it.

Charlene and Alyssia have been decorating cakes and they found dozens of the piping tips. Confused? Don’t worry, me too. Piping tips are the little steel tips they put on the bags they squeeze frosting thru. I was amazed how excited my two female companions got when they found the “perfect” piping tips!

If you like the American versions of a cooking store like William and Sonoma and Sur La Table and you can go into those store and stay for a while looking at “cooking stuff”, you will love E.Demillerin. The selection of “stuff” is off the charts and the prices are about half what you would pay at a U.S. cooking store.

Charlene and Alyssia were excited about the “Douilies” being a geezer, I was excited about the fact that we saved enough money on one “Douilies,” to buy another glass of wine.

No, I know most of my fellow bloggers are not blogging about cooking stores but we have a responsibility to pass on the real deals and so if you go to Paris enjoy the food, enjoy the wine and enjoy the great deals at E.Demillerin.
